SUMMARY: Compilation sponsored by Phantom Records in connection to the Wastelands shows put on by the Blacktown Youth Services Association in 1996. The finalists in the Wastelands band competition were selected for this compilation CD - this CD was the prize for these bands. The project was led by Hugh Worral and supported by Marty Durkan and Matty Albert (Spilt Milk), Sarah Louise, and Erin Fearn-Smith.
ORAL HISTORY:
MATTY: I came up with the name 'Wastelands'. It was started at Blacktown City Youth Association (BCYA) by a small group of kids who got together to put on events. Marty Durkan was a major contributor.

ERIN: Marty Durkan, Matty Albert, and Sarah Louise designed the logo. Hugh Worrall, who was with BCYA at the time, led this project. Phantom Records sponsored a band competition, and the bands on this compilation CD were the finalists. Recording this album was the prize. This also led to the establishment of the Wastelands shop, where the CD - along with other independently produced music, clothes, accessories, decorations, etc. - could be sold.

MARTY: I did the artwork with Hugh Worrall, who ran Blacktown Youth Services Association (BCYA). Hugh was instrumental in getting the Wastelands shop up and running and getting the BYSA venue for the gigs.
