SUMMARY: Hatetrip were a metal band active for three years. They are also known for being the first collaboration between Matty Albert and Damien Elliott (who would play together in several other bands over the next decade). Shannon Richmond is now a well-known tattoo artist.

 

 

ORAL HISTORY:

DAMIEN: Lost Souls morphed into this band. Matty Albert and I had first met around this time and when our bass player left he jumped right in playing bass. We had no idea how to book gigs and as Matty had already played in a couple of bands we started playing live when he joined. We recorded a four song demo tape which was given a very favourable review in Hot Metal magazine, which was pretty cool as I pretty much bought every issue early on.

MATTY: (It was) a metal band along the lines of Helmet. This was the first time I played in a band with Damien Elliott, who is one of the best musicians I've played with. Not only is his drumming amazing, but his songwriting and knowledge is uncanny. The other blokes are still friends to this day.
